§  Robert L. Burrell, EA

Robert was born and raised in Allen Park, Michigan; attended the University of Michigan where he studied electro-mechanical engineering, and served during the Viet-Nam war as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps. He then worked for the Ford Motor Company designing electronic testing systems and in a moment of inspired adventure moved to California where he worked for several aerospace engineering companies. Robert eventually accepted an engineering specialist position with the California Air Resources Board and later retired as a managing environmental engineering specialist with the California Waste Management Board. During his career with the State of California, he worked directly with various state legislators and two governors in adopting and implementing a variety of air pollution and waste management control policies enacted in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Robert continued to broaden his education experience by studying human resource law and business management at UCLA, economics and business finance at CSUF (Fullerton), real estate management and tax law at Fullerton College, accounting and business law at Mt. San Antonio College and Rio Hondo College, and geo-physics and technical writing at Pasadena City College. In 1983 and 1984 Robert obtained a real estate license, a CLU and CFP designation respectively. After retiring in 1989, Robert reviewed his tax and financial plans and found that his very expensive CPA had done very poorly in that he caused an over-payment in taxes of over $90,000.00 over a ten year period. Robert immediately fired his CPA, went back to school for more advanced tax law study, and took responsibility for his own tax planning and preparation. He then helped friends and neighbors recover money by correcting and re-filing their tax returns and thus Park Place Tax & Accounting was started out of a spare bedroom. His individual tax preparation service later expanded into the small business tax, bookkeeping, and planning service that it is today. Robert, having passed his IRS examinations in 2002, received his designation as an IRS Enrolled Agent and consequently has the rights to practice all areas of tax law before the Internal Revenue Service and represent clients in all fifty states.
